Belleville Fire Department News
June 2010
Don Schneider, firefighter and fire inspector passed away of a heart attack at the fire station. Don was a 38 year veteran and fire inspector for over 20 years and until recently was chief engineer on our Engine Companies. Don's knowledge of inspections, radio communications and many other aspects of the Department will be very much missed. His firefighter position has not yet been filled, but Fire Inspection duites have been turned over to Aaron Betts. Aaron has been to Inspector training and is certified as an Inspector. He has already began his inspection duties but has a big job ahead of him in getting up to speed on all inspections for 2010 and the future.

May 2010
Jake Myrland has filled the firefighter position vacated by the retirement of Ernie Sarbacker. Jake comes to us from the Verona Fire Department where he had 5 years of service and is certified as a Firefighteer 1 and 2 and also has extrication training. We are glad to have Jake and will use his experience to our benefit.

April 2010
Ernie Sarbacker has retired after 20 years of service with the Department. Ernie has always been instrumental in our Fish Boil and was cook for our annual Christmas Party. His service is greatly appreciated.

December 2009
Scott Mussehl has resigned from the Department after 4 years of service for health reasosns and his firefighter position has been filled by Tom Vaughan. Tom was a 30 year veteran of the Verona Fire Department. His knowledge will be invaluable to the Department.

August 2009
Mike Doyle Jr. was selected to fill the vacancy created by Gary Heinzman’s resignation. Mike will be a probationary firefighter for the next year and will begin Firefighter training as soon as a class becomes available.

April 2009
A Custom fire engine (pumper), Engine 1 was delivered from Custom Fire Apparatus of Osceola Wisconsin. This truck replaces a 1983 Pierce engine and is well equipped to provide many years of service to the Fire district. The new engine was put into service in August 2009.

April 2009
Captain Gary Heinzman has resigned from the Department due to work conflicts. Gary was a 17 year veteran and a Captain for 4 years. He was in charge of support units and works in the village so he was available to respond during the day when lots of Departments are short staffed. Gary’ professionalism and knowledge will be missed. Cary’s Captain position has been taken by Mike Doyle at elections in 2008.

March, 2009
The Department received a Federal Fire Grant in the amount of $186,000. for replacement of our entire fleet of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA’s) and replacement of our air cascade system with a state of the art Self Contained Air Fill System. We purchased 28 Air Packs and spare tanks for each along with the air fill system and have put them into service and have already used them on several occasions. These items greatly increased our firefighters safety and at no cost to the taxpayer.

November 20, 2007
Firefighters Dan Doyle and Paul Cate have ended their service with the Fire Department. Dan resigned as of September 30 with 17 years of service and was a member of our truck maintenance committee. Paul retired after 29 years of service and was a former officer and instrumental in getting our 6x6 into service. Both of the men will be missed by the Department and we wish them both well. They will be recognized at a later date.

Replacing Dan and Paul are new recruits Brad Hageman and Duane Schlimgen who will be probationary firefighters for the next year and will attend training as soon as a new class opens.

July 3, 2007
Dan Endres has been selected to replace retired Firefighter John Baumgartner. Dan, along with Michelle Eichelkraut and Brian Hollis will begin Basic Firefighter classes on August 15 2007.

June 21, 2007
John Baumgartner retired from active service as of May 31, 2007. John was a member of the Department for 32 years and was currently working on our Support Trailer remodeling and was a lead person at our Annual Fish Boil.

We all thank John for his many years of dedicated service. John and fellow retiree John Beil will be honored at the June 25 fire meeting and will receive their Department retirement gifts.

April 12, 2007
Two of our Firefighters have retired in recent months, Ken Bauman with 20 years of service and John Beil with 25 years of service.

Ken was honored at the Departments yearly Christmas Party and John, who retired at the end of March 2007 will be honored at a future date. The Department thanks both of the men for their service to the Department and the Community.

Replacing these two retirees are Michelle Eichelkraut and Brian Hollis who will be probationary firefighters for the next 12 months. Michelle has the distinction of being Belleville's first female firefighter. Both are awaiting entry into Firefighter training classes.
